Féile Traidphicnic goes ahead with virtual donation bucket
Banna Céilí Loch Lurgan, Johnny Óg Connolly, Cliodhna Costello, Padraig Ó Dubhghaill, Madagán, Antoni O’Breskey and Nomadic Piano Project are the opening acts for Day One of Spiddal’s Féile Traidphicnic, which kicks off this Friday evening, July 3, at 8.30pm.
Like almost every other festival in Ireland at present, it’s going online, with top musicians from Connemara and further afield, including Téada, Séamus Begley and Samantha Harvey, taking part.
The weekend will also include a series of pre-recorded concerts entitled Turas Siar (a Tour West from Barna to Carna); a visual arts and heritage event Airdín Buí; a live family music session, and access to the PW Joyce 1909 interactive collection on the Irish Traditional Music Archive with a chance to learn three jigs.
The jig-learning is on Saturday at 11am, when people are invited to go online with Traidphicnic and learn the selected tunes.
The first part of Turas Siar (Barna to Carna) will be streamed at 5.30 that afternoon. Then, at 8.30, there will be a show with Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha and Tommy Mellet, Clan Uí Iarnain with Mary Einniú, Becky Ní hÉallaithe, Orla Leavy, Mac Dara Ó Curraoín, Ella McGrory and Megan Nic Fhionnghaile.
Téada with Séamus Begley and Samantha Harvey will also feature in that concert.
Sunday’s events will kick off at 12.30pm with a live family session featuring Muintir Breathnach – Liz, Páidín, Rosie, Cúan and Ríona.
