A Tuam County Councillor is playing down fears that homes in Kilconly may be demolished to make way for a proposed new route for the N17.

Families in Kilconly are holding an emergency public meeting in Kilconly community Centre tonight.

The families only discovered this week that Friday is the closing date for completed public consultation questionnaires to be returned to the National Roads Authority.

If one of the proposed routes goes ahead it will mean that the home of one couple, John and Mary Daly will have to be demolished.

Residents say other homes in the Beagh and Castlegrove areas of Kilconly are also under threat.

The public meeting takes place in Kilconly Community Centre at 9 o’clock tonight.

Fianna Fail Cllr Tom Reilly doesn’t believe residents have anything to be concerned about:.
