There are fears illegal dumping in a bog outside the city could contaminate the water supply for Galway city and county.

Domestic waste, industrial waste and dead animals are being thrown into the bog and drainage channels of Sylaun Bog off the Headford Road outside the city.

Local bog owners and residents say the water from the channels drain into the River Clare and on into Lough Corrib which provides the city and county’s water.
