FEARS FOR ROUNDSTONE TOURIST SEASON FOLLOWING CRYPTOSPORIDIUM OUTBREAK
Date Published: 01-Apr-2008
There are fears the cryptosporidium outbreak in Roundstone’s water supply will affect this summer’s tourist season.
Over three hundred permanent residents of Roundstone, Inishnee and Errisbeg have been told to boil all water before drinking it, using it for food preparation, brushing teeth or making ice since yesterday’s confirmation of the parasite in the water supply.
The area attracts over 7,000 visitors during the peak tourist season.
Roundstone resident Anne Conneely is extremely concerned at the affect the outbreak will have on both tourists and families living in the area if the boil water notice remains in place for the summer.
Galway county council Director of Services Jim Cullen says the council won’t be sending tankers of clean water to the area because there is no actual shortage of water.
