There are fears this evening that more jobs will be lost in the motor industry following the closure of Tom Hogan Motors.

Showrooms in Ballybrit, Ennis, Shannon and Clonmel were locked after staff were told this morning the company had gone into voluntary liquidation.

It’s understood approximately 70 are employed at Tom Hogan’s Galway, 30 in Ennis, 20 in Clonmel and 15 in Shannon.

There’s widespread disappointment among Galway customers that Tom Hogan Motors hasn’t issued a statement or given a point of contact for customer queries.

BMW Ireland and Toyota Ireland meanwhile, have reassured their customers they will be faciliated at other dealers.

The society of the Irish Motor Industry says more jobs will go in the sector before the end of the year if sales stay at current low levels.
