Cutting the monthly budget of Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe by one-third will make it impossible for the facility to operate at its current level.

County councillor Demot Connolly says the HSE is planning to cut the hospitals budget by 1 million euro every month.

The hospital currently operates on a monthly budget of 2 point 7 million euro, and is already struggling to cope with increased patient numbers.
