A feared cut to disability services in Galway of 5 percent has been reduced to just over 1 percent.

Galway West Labour Deputy Derek Nolan says a 5 percent cut had been initally sought from local service providers such as the Brothers of Charity and Ability West.

However the HSE West officially confirmed the reduction to 1.2 percent at a special quarterly meeting with Oireachtas members today.

Deputy Nolan says the larged cut would have had a significant impact on frontline services with a serious reduction in services.
