Favourites advance to FAI Junior Cup 4th Round draw

The draw for the Third Round of the FAI Junior Cup kept all the big players apart and as a result there were comfortable wins for the top-flight teams in action against lower division opposition over the weekend.

The outcomes saw Mervue United, Athenry, Hibernians and NUI Galway all advance and were joined by Dynamo Blues, while the meeting of Corrib Rangers and St Bernard’s was postponed due to a bereavement.

The fourth round winners will produce the three Galway League teams who will advance to the national knock-out draw at the last 64 stage, and despite speculation locally, that draw has not been made yet.

NUI Galway were 3-0 winners over visitors Salthill Devon; Hibernians were 4-1 winners away to East United; Mervue United were 2-0 winners away to Kiltullagh; Athenry were 4-1 winners at home to Tuam Celtic; while Dynamo Blues won by the odd goal in three at home to Corrib Celtic.
