CITY TRIBUNE
Favourite Worst Nightmare in tribute to Arctic Monkeys
Playing the songs of the Arctic Monkeys, Favourite Worst Nightmare come to Monroe’s Live on Friday, September 15.
The Dublin-based tribute band will play songs from all five of the Sheffield band’s albums – and fans will be keen to hear them, given that the Monkeys have been on hiatus since 2014.
Arctic Monkeys were an instant success when their debut single I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor went to number one in October 2005. The song has a killer chorus and is good fun. Still, many indie bands can fall by the wayside with one song. But not the Arctic Monkeys – their debut album justified the hype and became the fastest-selling debut album in UK history.
The band followed up with the sublime Favourite Worst Nightmare in 2007, and it’s easy to see why a tribute band would take this as a name. It’s arguably the Arctic Monkey’s finest set of songs, the album where frontman Alex Turner established himself as a songwriter for the ages. The opening lyric of ‘Do Me A Favour’ show an eye for detail that a novel-writer would envy: ‘Well the morning was complete, there were tear on the steering wheel, dripping on the seat.’
Arctic Monkeys have gone on to fill arena around the world, and released another great album in 2013. AM saw them taking elements of hip hop into their music, and Turner’s lyric remained as acerbic as ever.
A night that will see some great songs celebrated, tickets for this show are €10. Doors 10pm.
