Farrell wins English high jump title

County Galway athlete Cathriona Farrell eclipsed all of her previous successes at the weekend when she won the English AAA U17 High Jump title in Sheffield.

Farrell leaped a fantastic 1.69m to narrowly claim the title ahead of Scottish Champion Jill Brooks and English Champion Hannah Dickson.

The AAA Championships are the highest standard of athletics competition on these islands and this was borne out in the high jump where competition was intense with no less than 9 jumpers clearing 1.60m.

The previous weekend in Antrim, Farrell took her second international title when winning the high jump with an outdoor personal best of 1.70m at the Celtic Games International.
