Galway Bay fm newsroom – A group of up to 15 farmers gathered in Dunnes Stores in Briarhill today as part of a national campaign against supermarket price wars on vegetable produce.

The farmers filled their trollies with carrots, parsnips and brussel sprouts, with many priced at just 6 cent a bag.

All the vegetables are to be donated to Saint Vincent De Paul.

The rally is part of a nationwide campaign against the knock-down prices offered on vegetables at superstores such as Dunnes, Lidl and Aldi.

Pat Murphy of the Irish Farmers Association told our reporter Antoinette Giblin that the government needs a code of practice for the retail industry to ensure fairer pricing.
