Family of Loughrea student who died in London give thanks for support

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The family of a young Loughrea student, whose body was found in Leicester Square in London last night have thanked the community in Galway and London for all the support.

18 year old Patrick Halpin, the son of Paddy and Elsie Halpin from Kilnadeema disappeared while out with friends from Dublin City University Drama club in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Metropolitan Police found the body of the DCU Actuary student off Leicester Square at around ten to eight last night.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Patrick’s father Paddy and sister Regina are in London having travelled there yesterday to help with the search.

Speaking on Galway Talks this morning, Regina Ní hAilpín thanked everyone for helping with the search and supporting the family.

Killimor-native, Ambrose Gordon owns the Man of Aran pub in Harrow, London.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm News, Ambrose says the Galway community in London will support the Halpin family.

Patrick Halpin’s former Principal at St Brigid’s Vocational School in Loughrea, Seán Connolly says the school is shocked and numbed.
