Family of Connemara man who died in Perth to attend memorial sevice
Galway bay fm newsroom – The family of a young Connemara man, who died in Australia at Christmas after an alleged assault, will attend a memorial service for him later this morning.
23-year-old, Thomas Keaney, from Murvey Roundstone, allegedly received a blow to the head outside a food outlet in Northbridge, Perth on December 17th.
He later died in hospital and a 22 year old man was arrested and remanded in custody until January 13th, when he will appear in court again.
Thomas had arrived in Australia just over a year ago and had been granted an extended visa.
His parents, Ann and Thomas Keaney travelled to Australia to be by their son’s side before he passed away.
His family have donated his organs and five organ recipients have been helped as a result.
A benefit night will take place at Clifden Station House Hotel on Saturday at 8pm to raise funds to bring Thomas’ body home, a process which could take weeks.
