Galway Bay fm newsroom – The family of a South Galway woman, who is one of the oldest in the county, will celebrate along with Julia Keely at her 101st birthday today (Sun 15) in Kilcolgan Nursing Home.
Julia, from Dunally, Peterswell has four sons, Bertie, Eamon, Matthew and Gerard, 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
She is still alert and in relatively good health and loves to see her sons and all members of her extended family.
According to her son Gerard she will be the centre of attraction at a birthday party attended by family members in Kilcolgan Nursing home later today (Sunday).
He says she worked hard on the family farm for most of her life and the fact that she never smoked may be one of the reasons for her longevity.
While Julia was not a drinker either she would, from time to time, enjoy a glass of Baily’s Cream, according to her family who are pleased to celebrate her 101st birthday with her today.
