Lisa Fallon who is the first female head coach to be appointed by Galway United.

GALWAY United’s first-ever female head coach says what sold her on the position was a combination of the turnaround in fortunes John Caulfield brought to the team following his appointment, in addition to the ambitions for the club which were laid out to her by both Caulfield and the Utd board.

Lisa Fallon took charge of her first collective training session at Salthill Devon’s rain-lashed Drom soccer complex last week, a session she had been looking forward to since first meeting the players over on-line platforms before her arrival.

“I have had the opportunity to meet the players on Zoom in the last few weeks, but it will be great to get on the pitch with them for the first collective training session,” she told Tribune Sport prior to the squad’s first group session.

“Where we are right now, everyone is anxious to back on the grass and to get training. It is a lovely group of players, and an exciting group, and we are looking forward to getting back together and working together for the season ahead,” said Fallon.

The club’s new head coach brings bags of experience to the role, having worked both domestically here and in England, as well as on the international front with Northern Ireland’s senior men’s side.
