Falcons’ wings clipped by Titans

IN their first game in the newly opened NUIG Gym, Titans overcame a Longford Falcons team led by veteran Lenny McMillan, 93-72, to continue their good start to the league. It was a confident display from Titans and the result never looked too much in doubt.

After losing to Castleisland away from home by the minimun of margins, this was exactly what Mike Lynch’s side needed. They looked strong on both defence and offence, and their sheer basketball ability was too much for Falcons.

The opening quarter started slowly with both teams even enough. Three-pointers by Paulius Peldzius and Rimvydas Visockas put six between the teams midway through the first quarter. Titans then pulled into a double figured lead, which they never relinquished, thanks to good inside play by Darren Callanan and further threes by Peldzius and Visockas.

A technical foul by Falcons allowed Danny Finn to put 12 between the sides. Falcons were finding it difficult to break down Titans water tight defence, with Callanan and Paul Freeman dominating the boards.
