Fahy wants Galway players to believe more in their potential
NEW Galway senior ladies football manager Gerry Fahy is calling on his charges to believe more in themselves – and in the potential of what they could achieve – as he begins to put his plans in place for the 2021 campaign.
Well-known GAA mentor Fahy was ratified as the county’s new manager by Galway LGFA at an online county board meeting last week. Fahy, who coached and managed Galway men at minor, U21 and senior level, succeeds his fellow Oranmore/Maree club-mate Tim Rabbitt.
Fahy has assembled a strong management team, with Kieran Collins, Annette Clarke and Salthill/Knocknacarra’s Declan Burke listed as his selectors. Collins managed Galway minor ladies to All-Ireland glory with victory over Cork in 2018 while 2004 All-Ireland winning senior captain Clarke requires no introduction.
In addition, Galway and An Spidéal netminder Mághnus Breathnach comes in as goalkeeping coach; David Mannion will take charge of fitness and strength & conditioning; Brian Rodgers is kit-man; and Alison Coneys remains on as physio.
Having joined Rabbitt’s backroom team as a selector last summer, Fahy is more than happy now to step up into the role of manager and, already, he is looking to build on the great work of his predecessor.
“From a management perspective and a player perspective, I think we need to go in with the approach that there is room for improvement in all aspects of our game. Another thing I think we need is to believe in ourselves more, and back ourselves more, and to go and express ourselves.”
