Fahy Faces Retrial Over Farm Fence

AFTER walking free from court last November, Galway County Councillor Michael Fahy now faces a
retrial for alleged fraud and attempted theft charges.

The Ardrahan poll topper walked free from the Four Courts late last year after the Court of Criminal Appeal set aside his conviction on seven counts and ordered that a retrial take place.

It has been confirmed by the Courts Service that a date for the retrial has been fixed for early October when Cllr. Fahy will stand accused of the same charges.

Ironically most of the fence at the centre of the action hassince been taken down to facilitate work on the new Galway to Limerick rail link.

In March 2007 at Galway Circuit Criminal Court, Cllr Fahy (57) was jailed for a totalof twelve months and fined €75,000 after a jury found him guilty of seven charges brought under the Larceny, Theft and Fraud Offences Acts.
