Fahey lashes mayor for comments about UHG

GALWAY West TD Frank Fahey has hit out at Galway City’s new Mayor Padraig Conneely, saying it is time he stopped making “cheap shot comments” at the expense of staff at University Hospital Galway.
Deputy Fahey was responding to remarks made by Mayor Conneely in the Galway City Tribune last week, when he declared UHG was only fit to be called a ‘Centre of Incompetence’ rather than a ‘Centre of Excellence.’
The damning comments from the Mayor came in reaction to a report from the Health Information Quality Authority which detailed the diagnostic mistakes made by two consultants at the hospital.
But, while Deputy Fahey said nobody could deny the seriousness of the report, he said it was not acceptable for the Mayor of the City to make such “over-the-top” comments about the hospital.
“It might be alright for Padraig Conneely as an individual to say something like that, but it is not alright for Padraig Conneely as Mayor of Galway to say it,” he said. Deputy Fahey said he had been…..
