Four parked cars were destroyed in an arson attack on a laneway off Eyre Square at the weekend.

An estimated €25,000 worth of damage was caused in the fire, which was started at around 1am last Saturday night/Sunday morning at St Patrick’s Avenue.

Minutes later, Gardaí arrested four men – aged between 21 and 26 – with Limerick addresses, who have since been charged with arson. All four are known to Gardaí in Limerick.

It’s understood that a 01-registered Renault Megane coupe was set alight, and the fire spread to three cars parked nearby, a 2008 VW Passat, a 2008 Ford Focus and a 2001 Toyota Yaris.

Garda estimates put the combined value of the damage at around €25,000.
