Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE and dept of Social Protection has agreed to provide greater space for the public and staff at Gort Health Centre

News of the agreement has been welcomed by Junior Minister and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon who liaised with both the HSE and Department last month to find a solution to the problem.

Room in the centre recently vacated by the Department of Social Protection is to be incorporated into the health centre.

Currently, patients and staff at Gort health centre are using cramped and completely inadaquate treatment spaces.

In the new arrangement the room formerly utilised by the Community Welfare Officer, is to become a new Public Health Nursing Office.

The office formerly used by the Public Health Nurse service will become a clinical room, and the former clinical room a clinical store.

The multipurpose room is used for various other clinics including counselling and physiotherapy.

The HSE says this will go a considerable way to addressing provision of further space.

Junion Minister Cannon told Galway Bay fm news work on these changes is to begin shortly.

Minister Cannon’s Fine Gael constituency colleague Paul Connaughton says while a new primary care centre is needed for Gort, upgrading of the existing facility is needed immediately to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
