Exhibition and poem examine nature of home
Actor Olwen Fouéré will be at the Town Hall Theatre this Saturday, September 10, reading Tweet Tweet Mothertongue-Fatherland / Teanga Dhúchais-Talamh Athair Snapchattin, a poem by Déirdre Carr.
Tweet Tweet Mothertongue-Fatherland / Teanga Dhúchais-Talamh Athair Snapchattin by Déirdre Carr, consists of an exhibition of 26 tapestries and the poem, which is three hours in length.
Deirdre Carr began this project when she was living in France and it was five five years in the making. It reflects on what it can mean to be Irish and is her way of coming home.
But, she points out that returning home is complicated, as ‘home’ is not a given awaiting someone’s return; it has to be re-discovered, re-invented.
With that in mind, Déirdre choose to take a fresh look at symbols associated with Ireland – the harp and the brooch, the shamrock and the crosses – to see if they could be explored in a way that defied clichés.
This Saturday’s reading by Olwen Fouéré will run from 3-6pm in the Bar of the Town Hall Theatre and patrons are invited to come and go as they please. Sound design and recordings are by Diarmuid McIntyre of Grey Heron Media.
Admission is free.
