Galway bay fm newsroom – The European Parliament is asking the Minister for Agriculture to carry out an independent inspection of the Keelderry commonage.

A group of farmers, whose single farm payments had been withdrawn by the Department, had their case heard in the EU in October.

Italian MEP and Chairman of the committee on petitions Erminia Mazzoni has now written to Simon Coveney asking for the matter to be prioritised.

She’s requesting that a fresh and independent inspection of the Keelderry commonage be conducted.

North West MEP Jim Higgins says Europe’s intervention will have a real impact on this case.
