Galway Bay fm newsroom – The EU has approved 2.6 million euro for Aran Islands conservation.

The project is the only Irish one among 248 to be funded under the LIFE + programme, the EU’s environment fund.

Half the 2.6 million will come from the European Commission and the other half is national co-funding.

The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will co ordinate the works to protect endangered habitats on the three Aran Islands, where land has been abandoned and the limestone pavement is under scrub.
