Galway Bay fm newsroom – The ESB is working to restore power to 30 customers following a mini-tornado in East Galway last evening.

Householders and farmers in the area are now assessing the damage following the freak storm which hit the area just before 7 last evening uprooting trees and ripping off rooftops.

Eyewitnesses say it approached from the banks of the Shannon at Meelick and moved across Clonfert, before heading for South Roscommon.

800 households in the Clonfert area were without power last night, however crews worked until 3am to restore supply to 700 homes.

The ESB is now advising people in the area to report any fallen wires which may still be live and should not be touched.
