ESB WINS RIGHT TO KEEP CONTROVERSIAL MASTS AT WESTSIDE

Two controversial ESB masts erected next to a children’s playground in Westside are here to stay.

An Bord Pleanála has granted the ESB permission to retain two 38 kilovolt steel masts at Westside Park.

The masts sparked outrage in the local community when they were built next to a playground and sports area without planning permission last year.

The ESB must now pay the city council for the cost of relocating the playground.

City Cllr Catherine Connolly and the Residents of Claremont Park had appealed against the masts to An Bord Pleanála.
