Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Environmental Protection Agency has called for action to address concerns regarding water quality issues in Clifden.
Residents in the Tullyvogheen and Cúirt Cregg estates have been calling on Irish Water to intervene for a number of months now.
They argue that the water feed coming from a section of old pipeline on the Galway Road is contaminated.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the EPA says it has requested Irish Water to submit a timetable for the replacement of the mains in question.
An assessment as to whether there is a risk to public health has also been ordered.
Sinn Fein Cllr Tom Healy says the EPA has now contacted Irish Water and the HSE to carry out testing.
He says clean drinking water is a basic human right.
