Environment Minister addresses Dail on cost of Galway storm damage

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Environment Minister says the Government has yet to make a decision on applying for E-U funding to repair the damage from the recent storms.

Phil Hogan’s told the Dáil that two thirds of the cost of the damage will apply to Counties Clare and Galway.

The disaster relief fund would normally only be available if the damage in Ireland exceeded 770 million euro.

Galway County Council is estimating that the cost of storm damage will be more than 18 million euro.

The Council’s interim submission in relation to the recent severe weather situation, says the clean-up cost to date is 500 thousand euro.

In the city, the Council has estimated the damage at a cost of 750 thousand euro.

Speaking in the Dail, Minister Hogan says the West coast was badly hit by the storm.
