English group Echotape for Monroe’s Live gig
English group Echotape play Monroe’s Live on Friday, March 14. The band was formed in late 2010 by a group of like-minded guys from the music scene in a small in the South of England.
Almost immediately they began to write songs that reflected their passionate, honest convictions. In the spring of 2011, one of their early demos found its way into the hands of Killing Joke bassist and legendary producer, Youth (Dido, The Verve, and one-half of The Fireman along with Paul McCartney)
No label or media was aware of their existence when Youth asked the five-piece to decamp to his studio in the hills outside Granada, Spain. In a week they laid down 17 tunes, recording everything live. Echotape’s first release, a four-song EP entitled Sky Above Quarley Hill, was the result. While still relatively unknown, their debut single, Unstable went on to chart in the US college radio top 200.
In April 2013, the lads released their debut album, Collective, which was picked up by radio stations in the US, Asia and Europe. This came after performances in Hollywood, a headline UK and Ireland tour and a stadium support tour with Russian super-group Mumiy Troll. In addition, Echotape’s song Spinning had its video featured in London’s Tate Gallery, making them an interesting outfit on many levels.
