The hospital emergency unit in Ballinasloe is at risk of having to scale down its opening hours from July.

The warning was issued by Dr. James Binchy, an emergency consultant in Galway, in light of the shortage of junior doctors.

There are claims emergency units in Portiuncula, Naas general hospital, Kerry general and Letterkenny general are at risk because they are already coping with a staffing shortfall.
