Galway Bay fm newsroom – University Hospital Galway is being put under pressure due to the failure of emergency ambulances to meet response time standards.

That’s according to Roscommon-based T.D, Denis Naughton.

Recent figures revealed that one third of life-threatening 999 ambulance calls in the West are failing to meet the national target response time of 19 minutes.

The Health Information and Quality Authority states that ambulances should be at the call-out location within 19 minutes in at least 85 percent of cases.

However, only 55 percent of all 999 calls in the West are meeting the target time.

Deputy Denis Naughten says it’s important that investment is put into the ambulance service as soon as possible.
