ELECTRIC CARS LAUNCHED ON ARAN ISLANDS

The Aran Islands Electric Vehicle Pilot Project is being officially launched on Inis Mór.

The pilot scheme will test smart grid technologies needed to transfer and store wind energy in electric cars.

The first two participants received their electric cars yesterday on Inis Meain and Inis Oirr, while six people on Inis Mór will get their cars today.

The initiative is run by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland in conjunction with the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs.
