A SECTION of the N59 road between Clifden and the point where it meets Mayo, has been identified as the worst accident blackspot in the country.

In an analysis carried out by a leading location intelligence service provider, the most likely place to have an accident in the Republic of Ireland is a section of that road between Letterfrack and Leenane.

According to the Gamma Location Intelligence company – who interpret data provided by Transport Infrastructure Ireland – there are also four other points on the N59 categorised as accident blackspots.

The ‘number one’ accident blackspot in Ireland has been identified by Gamma Location Intelligence as one location of the N59 that is 3.7 kilometres west of the R334 junction close to Kylemore Pass.

Four other blackspots in close proximity, also on the N59, have been identified as: 1.3km west of Letterfrack; at the point where the N59 crosses into Mayo (Clog-Aasleagh); 1.8km west of Moyard; and at the exact junction between the N59 and the R344, again close to Kylemore Pass.
