Property developers have shown huge interest in purchasing the GPO on Eglinton Street, while An Post have said a decision on the successful candidate is likely to be reached by Easter.
The three-quarter of an acre site — which has been unofficially valued at around €25 million — is widely expected to become a shopping centre because of its prime location.
As well as the frontage on Eglinton Street, there is access through Abbeygate Street (beside Central Park nightclub), as well as on William Street beside Matt O’Flaherty’s Pharmacy.
Last year, An Post asked developers to submit proposals for the site — part of the deal involves the relocation of the GPO to a new site within four specified city centre areas, where they will be based rentfree.
