Efforts to find overseas markets for Connemara lamb
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Prices for Connemara lambs have plummeted this year and efforts are being made to find other markets overseas.
The possibility of direct live exports to Libya is one of the options being considered.
Connemara hills lambs are a delicacy in the food business.
However the hills lambs prices are gone back by 40% to 50%.
One reasons given is that the Connemara lamb is too small for commercial purposes and the larger crossbred lambs are worth more money.
Maam Cross Mart owner Owen Burke has opened talks with Libyan businessmen with a view to a possible direct sale of Connemara lambs to that country.
