Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Education Minister is urging calm in the mother and baby homes allegations, the most recent of which concern the facility run by the Bons Secours Order in Tuam in the 1960s and 70s
Ruairi Quinn says some of the recent headlines concerning the running of mother and baby homes are ‘lurid’ and ‘misleading’.
He says all of the facts surrounding child deaths at homes run by religious orders should be established before deciding whether an inquiry is needed.
The Child and Family agency Tusla today confirmed that it has now received some of the records from mother and baby homes in Tuam, Bessborough in Cork, and St Patrick’s in Dublin.
Minister Ruairi Quinn is urging calm and says society as it was then is responsible for the way single mothers and their children were treated.
