Education Minister urged to clarify patronage award for new Knocknacarra primary school
Galway bay fm newsroom -Concerns over the process of awarding patronage for a new primary school in Knocknacarra are to be brought before the Education Minister.
Ruairi Quinn announced last month that Educate Together has been appointed as the patron of the new primary school in the area due to open next year.
A further 8-classroom school for Knocknacarra for 2015, under the patronage of Lifeways Ireland Limited, will also be considered.
Cllr Donal Lyons raised the matter at a meeting of the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board in the city last evening (Oct 8).
He told members he was disappointed that City of Galway VEC had lost out on the patronage after receiving many expressions of interest in the initial review in 2011.
Former Acting City of Galway VEC chief executive Tomás Mac Pháidín told the meeting that no formal award issued in 2011 and the Minister deferred the award of patronage pending review.
It was then put out to tender again in April this year.
A proposal has now been made to make the body’s views known to the Minister.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Cllr Lyons says clarification is needed
