Eddi Reader to feature in Forge show
The Alan Kelly Gang and Scottish singer Eddi Reader will play the Forge, Moycullen, this Sunday night, August 4 as part of their Small towns & Famous Nights Irish tour.
The Alan Kelly Gang is fronted by the Roscommon-born piano accordion player and includes Steph Geremia (flute and vocals), Maureen Brown (fiddle) and Tony Byrne (guitar). They perform songs and tunes from Ireland, Brittany, Asturias and Louisiana, as well as original music.
The past few years have been busy for the band with festival appearances worldwide including WOMADelaide, Australia; Winnipeg Folk Festival, Canada and Festival Irlandays, Paris.
For Sunday’s show they will be joined by Reader, (ex- Fairground Attraction) and Trashcan Sinatra’s John Douglas. Alan joined Eddi Reader’s band in 2005 and featured on her last four albums. They collaborated on John Douglas song,’s I Hung My Harp upon the Willows, which featured on Alan’s 2009 album, After the Morning.
In 2010 Alan and Eddi teamed up for the Cork Folk Festival, Sligo Live and Galway Arts Festival. The following year, the Kelly gang released their first album, Small Towns & Famous Nights, which featured Eddi’s song, Connemara. In this show, they will preview material from their next album, due for release next February.
