The lack of facilities in the West for people suffering from eating disorders has led to a huge number of cases going unreported.

That’s according to the founder of the Eating Disorder Resource Centre, Suzanne Horgan.

She says that early intervention is vital to aid full recovery in such cases and that the lack of beds and trained nurses in the West is a major problem.

Despite the fact that over 200 thousand people suffer from eating disorders in Ireland, there are only 3 public hospital beds and 8 private beds available at present.

Sufferers from Galway are forced to travel to Dublin and Wexford or abroad to seek treatment.
