Early work for city bike scheme complete
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Some of the pre-installation works for Galway’s public bike scheme have been completed.
City Council management told this week’s meeting of the Council that Galway is ahead of Cork and Limerick in terms of preparation for the Coke Zero sponsored initiative.
It’s expected to be rolled out in the city by October.
The contract for the long-awaited scheme was awarded last month to consortium, ‘An Rothar Nua.’
The €4.5m contract covers the supply and installation of the bike share scheme in Galway, Cork and Limerick.
205 bikes will be provided in Galway city with 19 bike stations and 395 bike stands.
City councillors have called for an Irish title for the scheme in keeping with Galway’s status as a bilingual city.
