THIS result’s significance will be determined in two weeks, but Cappataggle and Killimordaly served up a nail-biting conclusion on Saturday evening before finishing all square.

The argument can be made how both teams should have won  And the same argument can be made for how both could have lost. But there were no complaints when referee Liam Gordon eventually signalled a stalemate.

At the second half water break, Cappataggle led 1-14 to 1-13, having finally stamped their authority it appeared on opponents refusing to yield.

That being said, Gary Earls’ group knew their season depended on this following an opening day loss to St. Thomas.

Paul Creaven was immense for Killimordaly and received keeper Robert Noone’s long drive to split the post on 52 minutes and level for the seventh time. Brian Concannon was the engine for the green and white and he profited from Luke Lynskey’s assist to put them ahead.

And with three minutes remaining, Creaven converted a free. Despite only holding that dangerous two point lead, it looked enough to propel Killimordaly to victory.

Cappataggle have played better but this was a testament to their experience that they found a way to turn around their fortunes. Seasoned warriors dig deep and the 2014 intermediate champions have earned that tag.
