€2.2m apartment development in Salthill faces wrecking ball
One of the most expensive property transactions in Galway 2019 – an apartment development in Salthill – is facing the wrecking ball.
Plans were lodged last week with Galway City Council to demolish the two blocks at Marine View apartments – located between Beach Avenue and Quincentennial Drive – to make way for a 4/5-storey block of 19 holiday apartments.
Ranchville Ltd, which now owns Marine View, has sought permission to construct 17 two-bed, 1 three-bed and 1 one-bed apartment for short-term letting on the half-acre site.
Vehicular access will be from Quincentennial Drive and each of the apartments will offer views of Galway Bay. There are also eleven parking spaces proposed.
A Flood Risk Assessment included with the planning application noted that while there were “significant flood levels” recorded in the green space and at Toft Carpark in front of the site in the 2013-14 storms, there is “no significant flood risks to people, property or the environment”.
“The apartments will be available for short-term holiday letting, reflecting the use of adjoining sites and appropriate in the tourist area of Salthill village,” the application reads.
The Marine View development, which comprises eight apartments in total, was sold last year for €2.2 million.
The site is now owned by Cavan businessman Patrick Sheanon of specialist ventilation company Breffni Air.
