Dyke Road collapses

Motorists face lengthy delays around the city for at least the next few days as City Council workers carry out emergency repairs on the Dyke Road which collapsed at one spot yesterday.

Miraculously nobody was injured when a small part of the road on the river side between the Black Box Theatre and Quincentennial Bridge gave in due to water pressure on Monday morning.

Engineers are satisfied that none of the rest of the road is at risk of subsidence, insisted Director of Services for Transportation and Infrastructure Ciarán Hayes. Once new underground pipes are installed across the runway the problem will be addressed, he stressed.
