Dunmore deliver in thriller

DUNMORE McHales were crowned U21 B football champions after a pulsating encounter that saw them hang-on for a one-point deserved victory over a gutsy Renvyle outfit in the county final at Pearse Stadium on Saturday.
Time and again in this five goal thriller Dunmore pulled away, only to be reeled back in by Renvyle who never gave up and bounced back with critical scores that ensured this deciderwent right down to the wire.
With the scoreboard showing 2-10 to 2-6 in Dunmore’s favour and with just three minutes remaining, it looked like the North Board champions would just wind down the clock and run out four-point winners.
Credit to Renvyle then who never gave up and somehow managed to scramble a goal to leave the minimum between the sides with just enough time remaining to snatch at least a draw.
The lively corner forward Shane Lydon sent in a harmless enough looking low ball across the square and it looked like the three or four Dunmore backs would deal with it comfortably but, amazingly, full-forward Michael McDonnell got on the end of it and the ball trickled past ‘keeperThomas Monaghan.
