Duncan shines at London Marathon
City native Nicola Duncan enhanced her growing reputation in athletics when she was the first non-elite female finisher at the London Marathon on Sunday.
Running the 26.2 mile course in a magnificent times of 2 hours 33:28mins, Duncan – who lives in Edinburgh but is affiliated to Galway City Harriers – was the 11th woman home overall.
Edna Kiplagat of Kenya was the first female to cross the line in a time of 2:20:21 with her namesake Florence Kiplagat finishing in second.
Duncan’s time at this distance improved on her personal best set in Amsterdam in October 2013 by three minutes 16 seconds and her London showing puts her fifth in the Irish all-time women’s list – her time of 2.33.28 in London was the fastest time set by an Irish woman since Sonia O’Sullivan competed in this discipline in 2005.
