Duke Special back on the road with new project
Belfast based singer Duke Special will play Róisín Dubh on Friday, February 27, as part of his first full Irish tour in over five years. The theatrical and dynamic performer will be introducing audiences to songs from his fourth studio album Look Out Machines! on this tour.
Look Out Machines! sees Duke Special exploring new musical ground with collaborators including Iain Archer (Snow Patrol), jazz-rock musician Phil Wilkinson and Gary Clark (Danny Wilson, and Transister). Duke recently released the first single from the album, a pulsating 1960s tinged belter called Elephant Graveyard.
The album was recorded at Electric Zoo studios in the English seaside town of Eastbourne. To fund it, Duke teamed up with the online site Pledge Music for a second time. Back in 2009, he was one of the first artists to embark upon a Pledge Campaign, raising money for his ambitious Stage, Book and Silver Screen project.
Look Out Machines! has surpassed its funding target but is still accepting pledges. Fans can get exclusive goodies, such as signed CDs, personal house gigs, and they will also have the opportunity to join Duke in an attempt to break the world record for the most concerts performed in 24 hours. The record currently stands at 65 shows.
This approach shows that Duke Special is continuing his novel approach to making music, something he demonstrates in every gig he plays.
Doors 8pm, tickets €12.50/€15 members.
