The Archbishop of Dublin says he feels the country has been wrongly portrayed internationally over the abortion issue.

Dr. Diarmuid Martin says he agrees with the Taoiseach that the debate on abortion cannot be rushed.

Commenting on the death of Savita Halappanavar at UHG last month, Dr Martin says that current guidance given to the medical profession should be reviewed if it is insufficient.

His comments come as the husband of Savita Halappanavar is taking a case to the European Court of Human Rights – in his quest to have a full public inquiry carried out into his wife’s death.

The 31 year old died at University Hospital Galway last month after suffering a miscarriage – her husband Praveen claims she was repeatedly refused a termination.
