Drunk driver jailed for city crash which seriously injured student
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A drunk driver who severed a student’s leg when he mounted a footpath at speed while over the legal alcohol limit, has been sentenced to five years in prison and disqualified from driving for twenty years.
31 year old, Marius Strelciunas, a Lithuanian national, of 132 Manor Court, Knocknacarra, appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
He pleaded guilty to driving dangerously, which caused serious bodily harm to a 22- year-old college student, on December 23rd, 2012.
Strelciunas also pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in that a blood sample taken shortly afterwards showed a reading of almost 5 times the legal limit.
