Druid actors, Liam Heslin and Megan Cusack with students from Glenamaddy Community School after the company's performance of On the Outside by Tom Murphy and Noel O’Donoghue.

Druid Theatre is running an Education and Community Programme as part of the company’s DruidGregory tour of Galway.

The company is staging outdoor productions of five one-act plays by Lady Gregory, as well as On the Outside, co-written by Tuam writers Tom Murphy and Noel O’Donoghue.

Secondary school performances include: Archbishop McHale College, Tuam, where Tom Murphy attended secondary school and taught metalwork; Glenamaddy Community College; Seamount College, Kinvara; St Brigid’s College, Loughrea; and Clarin College Athenry.

On the Outside, a short satirical play, was Murphy’s first foray into theatre-writing and explored social norms and exclusion in rural Ireland in the early 1960s.

There are post-show discussions in participating schools and teachers and pupils can also download a specially designed free, education pack.
