Former Galway footballer and current Galway City councillor Eddie Hoare (FG) married his fiancée, social media influencer, Pam Richardson at a ceremony last Friday. It was dubbed the ‘wedding of the year’ by some of the special guests in attendance.

Judging by the photos uploaded onto social media and picked up by the likes of RSVP Magazine’s online blog, the marriage of the politician and socialite at a ceremony in Galway Cathedral, followed by a reception in five-star Glenlo Abbey Hotel was quite the occasion.

The ‘Day Two’ of a wedding weekend can often be more relaxing – and dare we say it, more enjoyable – than the big day itself because there’s usually less stress and pressure for everyone.

But followers of the city councillor were a bit concerned that the groom might have been unnecessarily adding more stress to an already busy weekend by engaging in what most people would consider as work.

You see, the bould Eddie has developed a habit of giving a Covid-19 ‘update’ to his online followers. He regularly posts the latest about new confirmed case numbers, hospital admissions and ICU patients to Facebook and Twitter.

This dissemination of information has led some of Cllr Hoare’s friends to jovially refer to him as ‘Doctor Ed’.

None of them, however, expected Dr Ed to post ‘tweet nothings’ about Covid so soon after he got married.

But perhaps proving that he’s still wedded to his job of keeping you informed, Eddie posted a ‘Covid-19 update’ to his social media followers on the day after the night before.

“2,125 additional cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed. 259 Covid-19 patients are in hospital with 54 of those patients in intensive care (ICU),” his social media account said last Saturday.

One of the replies from a Facebook follower, Paul Feeney, summed up the general reaction: “Thought you would have more to be at after getting married yesterday! Congrats to you both!”

Dr Ed had also posted a Covid-19 update on Thursday, the day before his wedding, but mercifully took a break on the big day itself which he described as “the perfect day”.

And his post-wedding foray into work mode to tweet about Covid didn’t stop Ed and Pam from enjoying their ‘mini-moon’ – photos of which the happy couple duly shared on social media from Ballynahinch Castle and Ashford Castle, alongside his Covid-19 updates, which have continued since.
